President Joe Horning Receives Top Leadership Award

Top Workplace 2016Brookfield, Wisconsin. Shorewest, REALTORS® is proud to have been awarded 2nd place overall for the 2016 Top Workplaces in the Large Company category of 500 or more associates by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Shorewest is Wisconsin’s #1 Real Estate Top Workplace and this is the fifth consecutive year that the company has placed as the leading real estate Top Workplace in Wisconsin.

President, Joe Horning also received special recognition winning the Top Leadership Award for a Large Company. This exclusive award was chosen based on standout scores on specific survey statements.

Winners of the Top Workplaces are based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. Several aspects of workplace culture are measured, including alignment with corporate culture, executing the mission statement, and connection from company to employee, just to name a few.

“The Top Workplace award is not a popularity contest. And often times, people assume it’s all about fancy perks and benefits.” says Doug Claffey, CEO of WorkplaceDynamics. “But to be a Top Workplace, organizations must meet our strict standards for organizational health. And who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day—the employees. Time and time again, our research has proven that what’s most important to them is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together. Without this sense of connection, an organization doesn’t have a shot at being named a Top Workplace.”

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award and extremely proud because our sales associates and employees have deemed Shorewest a Top Workplace environment for their careers,” says Horning. “Our entire team deserves the credit for this award for their dedication, hard work and commitment to outstanding customer service.”

The company takes pride in fostering a family feeling with understanding, compassion, balance and support, says Horning. He and his brother John P. Horning, Executive Vice President, are the third generation to lead Shorewest and its family of companies. Shorewest began in 1946 by their grandfather John A. Horning as Wauwatosa Realty. Over the past 70 years, Shorewest sales associates, managers and team members live out the mission that was created and the company was founded on: We are a team…proudly independent; dedicated to serving the housing needs of Wisconsin; committed to unsurpassed customer service; pledged to share our talents for mutual growth and prosperity. They truly care about their clients and customers.

Giving Back to the Community

In addition to helping families buy or sell their homes, Shorewest is proud to be a member of the communities they serve, and contributing to their surrounding areas is always a priority. Shorewest’s own charity Christmas is for Kids (C4K) started helping families in need of Christmas spirit over 30 years ago, and is now a year-round cause that they support. Fundraising activities include a major C4K golf outing during the summer, chili cook-offs, auctions, bike rides and bake sales. Casual Days for a Cause provides added support to families and charities that need financial help. It also aids the Red Cross during disasters, blood drives, food drives, families needing medical assistance and other worthy causes.

Shorewest is one of the sponsors of the Breast Cancer Showhouse where they decorate and display a beautiful home. They also support United Way, UPAF, the Salvation Army and more. This is in addition to the countless parades that the Shorewest fire truck can be seen with their own President, Joe Horning waving behind the wheel. Behind all of their giving spirit are the family bonds that hold them all together.

Family Through it All

A sense of family can be felt at Shorewest; from HorningBuildingFest, where a fun summer tradition has continued over the years with light-hearted games and catered cuisine shared by all, to the Holiday Cheer Party where the Shorewest Family of employees can relax and enjoy each other’s company. Office Awards are given out each year to pay tribute to individual accomplishments and the longevity of 5, 10, 15 and 20 year anniversaries of team members. Shorewest also celebrated its 70th Anniversary in February with an awards ceremony and program to commemorate excellence within its family of companies. It was a wonderful event for company members to come together as a family to celebrate individual and company-wide accomplishments.

Shorewest has set the standard on how to bring family and employees as a team to work together to serve Wisconsin’s families — and to care about each and every customer and client that they serve.
