Shorewest Tips: Cabinet Painting

Facebook Share Image 01_19Worn or outdated looking cabinets can have an adverse effect on the value of a home. According to Remodeling Magazine, the only home improvement likely to return more at resale was a minor kitchen remodel.

One alternative to the often large investment of replacing the cabinets is to have them painted. Usually more cost effective than replacement, cabinet painting must be done correctly to obtain a quality, long-lasting finish.

Painting trim and cabinets incorrectly may leave you with items that crack, peel, wear out or remain tacky to the touch. The process should start by de-glossing, sanding, priming or employing a combination of these techniques before the top layer of paint is applied. If the trim requires multiples layers of paint, then sanding between coats is preferred.

Painting with a new coat of paint without the proper preparation is doomed to fail. Done properly, freshly painted cabinets will create the WOW factor your clients’ desire.
